ITINERARY
DAY 1, June 03, 2021 | Ljubljana
Ljubljana

Upon arrival at Ljubljana airport you will be welcomed to Slovenia by your local English-speaking tour leader as you exit customs into the arrivals hall and transferred to your hotel where you will be assisted with check-in procedures.

In the late afternoon meet your local tour leader in the lobby of the Hotel Union and enjoy the welcome cocktail with the other participants of the tour. During the aperitif the tour leader will go through the itinerary, introducing you the wonderful countries you will see in this trip. The rest of the day will be at leisure.

DAY 2, June 04, 2021 | Ljubljana
Ljubljana

In the morning experience the gastronomic delights of Slovenia during your walking tour of Ljubljana, which has been the capital city of Slovenia for almost 200 years and is characterized by its beautiful Baroque architecture. Visit the Three Bridges area, the cathedral, the Plecnik open market, Prešern Square, Ljubljana Castle and Congress square.  Along your tour you will stop in some locations, markets and bars to taste Ljubljana’s gourmet gems and your guide will give you an insight about the local cuisine, showing you the hidden places of this magical city.

After the tour you will be accompanied back to your Hotel by your guide. Afternoon and dinner at leisure to enjoy the town on your own

DAY 3, June 05, 2021 | Lake Bled
Lake Bled

After breakfast at the hotel, we will spend the morning visiting Bled Lake and Bled Castle. The Castle stands on a rock approximately 100 meters above the lake with wonderful views of the town, lake and countryside.

Perched atop a steep cliff rising 130 metres above the glacial Lake Bled is a symbol of Slovenia. The image of the castle forming a dramatic backdrop to the romantic island and the church on it has earned the resort worldwide recognition through the centuries. Castle terraces offer spectacular views of the lake and the island, down the Dežela area with Lesce and Radovljica and over to the mountain ranges of the Karavanke and the Julian Alps.   

?Medieval documents refer to Bled with its German name Veldes. In terms of written documents, Bled Castle is the oldest castle in Slovenia. Castle buildings are arranged around the lower and upper courtyards. Enjoy lunch with typical Slovenian dishes in a local restaurant. After lunch you will be accompanied back to Ljubljana.

DAY 4, June 06, 2021 | Postojna – Portoroz
Postojna – Portoroz

After breakfast at the Hotel, you will be privately transferred to Postojna. The Predjama Castle is one of the most picturesque buildings in the whole of Slovenia. There is time to visit the castle before continuing to the caves of Postojna, one of the most spectacular cave formations in the world with huge stalactites and stalagmites forming extraordinary shapes in massive cathedral- like caves.

Enjoy lunch a local restaurant and then continue on to Portoroz where you will have the afternoon and evening at leisure.

DAY 5, June 07, 2021 | Portoroz – Pula - Brijuni
Portoroz – Pula - Brijuni

Today enjoy a full day's touring of the Istrian peninsula. Istria lies at the foot of the Alps, nestling at the northern end of the Adriatic Sea. Enchanting towns with distinctive architecture dot the spectacular coastline, while inland Istria is a striking fusion of rolling hills and valleys with lush vineyards and forests. Istria is also abundant in historical and cultural monuments; ancient ramparts encircle medieval towns on picturesque hilltops offering fascinating views of the surrounding countryside.

We will cross into Croatia and admire the town of Pula starting from the amphitheatre that goes around ancient roman city gates, to the market building, the ancient city with roman mosaics, forum and cathedral, and the Venetian Fortress. If the time allows a short break at the market is possible, also a walk around the Kastel with a view to ancient roman theatre.

From Pula you will reach Fazana to take the boat to the Brijuni islands, and the beautiful Brijuni National Park.

After lunch you will be transferred back to the hotel in Portoroz where you will spend your afternoon at leisure before dinner at the hotel.

DAY 6, June 08, 2021 | Zadar

After the breakfast, we’ll check out of the hotel, you will be privately transferred to the city of Zadar on Croatia’s coast.

We’ll stop for lunch along the way and have dinner near the Hotel Verdi in Zadar.

DAY 7, June 09, 2021 | Split
Split

After a tasty breakfast transfer to Split by private vehicle. Upon arrival in Split enjoy some free time for lunch.

After lunch you will meet your English-speaking local guide and you will begin by immersing yourself in the fascinating history of Split with an exploration of the impressive Diocletian’s Palace. Built in 295 BC, this extraordinary structure lies in the heart of the city and today forms part of the old town and city center, making Split one of the most unique cities in Europe. See Peristil Square where the Roman Emperor made his speeches, as well as the mausoleum, which was transformed into a Catholic church in the 7th century AD. Afterwards, wander through the many charming streets and piazzas immediately outside the palace before taking a stroll along the Riva, a chic coastal promenade lined with palm trees, where you can relax in the sun and enjoy a beautiful view of the port and nearby islands.

After the tour, we will check into our hotel and enjoy a delicious Croatian dinner near the hotel.

DAY 8, June 10, 2021 | Brac Island

After breakfast at the hotel, we’ll board a ferry to Bra? (arrival at 10am), a Dalmatian island famous for its stone, used in Split’s Diocletian Palace and the White House in Washington, D.C. Visit Skrip, the oldest village on the island, and the Museum of Bra?. Stop at a traditional restaurant for lunch, sampling local specialties of lamb, cheese, olives and wine before returning by ferry to Split.

Enjoy typical lunch at the Museum of Olive Oil before taking the 2:30pm ferry back to Split and enjoy the afternoon and evening at leisure.

DAY 9, June 11, 2021 | Split – Mostar – Dubrovnik
Split – Mostar – Dubrovnik

After breakfast we’ll travel through Croatian and Bosnian hinterlands to Dubrovnik.

We will stop en route in Mostar, where you are met by your local guide for a walking tour. Mostar is a picturesque town famed for its ‘Stari Most’ (old bridge) which spans the turquoise waters of the Neretva River which flow some 21 metres below. The bridge is a UNESCO World Heritage site and as you cross the bridge from the west bank you will also be crossing the ancient point where East and West symbolically met. During Turkish rule, the city was an important trade center and the Old Bazaar Kujundziluk which was named after the goldsmiths who crafted their wares on this street, flourishes today. Here you find many artisans selling their traditionally hand-crafted goods including beautiful carpets, paintings, copper and brassware and jewellery. Your guide then leads you to the oldest mosque in Mostar, the Cejvan Cehaj Mosque which was built in 1552, and the Koski Mehmed pasa Mosque built in 1617 where it is possible to climb the spiral stairs of the minaret for a spectacular view of the town.

We will enjoy lunch at a nice restaurant in Mostar, and then continue our journey to Dubrovnik.

Upon arrival at our hotel in Dubrovnik, you will have the afternoon and evening at leisure.

DAY 10, June 12, 2021 | Dubrovnik

After breakfast at the hotel, take in Dubrovnik’s wonderful architecture today during a half-day tour. Start the day from the lobby of your hotel with a walking tour of the old city of Dubrovnik, proclaimed a city museum by UNESCO. The old city is surrounded by a circuit of city walls; over a mile in length, and with towers and ramparts, they are a masterpiece of medieval and renaissance architecture. Stroll along the centuries-old main city promenade called Stradun; at one end of this street you will visit 14th-century Franciscan Monastery whose cloister ranks among the most inspiring sites of the city. At the other end, see the church of St. Blaise and the Sponza Palace. Walk through the city center and see from the outside the Rector’s Palace and the Dominican Church and Monastery, constructed during the 14th century at the same time as the city’s walls were being erected

After the tour time at leisure for lunch and to explore the town on your own before dinner at the hotel.

DAY 11, June 13, 2021 | Kotor – Tivat

We will leave Dubrovnik this morning by private vehicle and drive southeast along the Konavle Valley. Cross the border into Montenegro and continue to Perast and visit the Church of Our Lady of the Rocks (Gospa od Skrpjela), a Baroque edifice that was first constructed in 1452 on a man-made islet. As time passed, the islet gradually emerged from the sea. The church contains 68 magnificent paintings by Tripo Kokolja, a 17th-century artist from Perast. Then time at leisure in Perast for lunch.

In the afternoon visit Kotor, a city designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Within the walls of Kotor, you will discover many bustling squares where locals love to sit, converse and enjoy a glass of wine or cup of coffee while watching the world go by. Stroll through the town and select the café where you wish to sit to soak up the atmosphere

Enjoy your farewell dinner in a lovely restaurant in Tivat.

DAY 12, June 14, 2021 | Tivat – Podgorica
Tivat – Podgorica

After breakfast your luggage will be loaded on the private motor coach. You will then pass by to Sveti Stefan Island – one of the most exclusive summer resorts of Adriatic coast. This island was a shelter for local people during attack of pirates and Turks, but modern infrastructure represents a luxury hotel with private access for exclusive guests: even Novak ?okovi? chose it as the venue of his own wedding. your next stop is Skadar Lake – unique mere reaching 391km2 in size – the largest lake on the Balkan Peninsula. We will drive through the newly build Sozina tunnel. The River Bojana connects Skadar Lake and the Adriatic Sea sipping its way through a large mountain chain. The Montenegrin part of the lake, 40 thousand hectares or 2/3 of total surface was proclaimed a National Park in 1983, while the rest of Skadar belongs to Albania. After a short drive the tour end in Podgorica, capital of Montenegro. Group Transfer to the airport. Check in with the assistance of your tour leader.

Nicole Randall is a native of New York and came to People to People International in 2018. She offices for the organization out of Washington, D.C.

She began her career while working for the military at Fort Benning, Georgia. After spending time as an Executive Producer and Director of Communications for both the Kansas Departments of Transportation and Commerce, she started at PTPI.

She has a Bachelor's Degree in Communications and a Master's Degree in Diplomacy. She lives in D.C. with her husband and son.
