ITINERARY
DAY 1, September 18, 2020 | Amman
Amman

Upon arrival at Queen Alia International Airport (AMM), meet your guide who will transfer to your hotel in Amman. Later in the evening at 6pm, get to know your teammates and review the tour details with your local tour guide and tour leader, followed by a welcome dinner at the hotel.

DAY 2, September 19, 2020 | Amman – Jerash – Souf – Amman
Amman – Jerash – Souf – Amman

After breakfast, your driver will pick you up from your hotel in Amman and head north to Jerash, regarded as one of the most important and best-preserved Roman cities in the Middle East. Proceed next to Souf, a small town in Jerash, where the women’s cooperative Beit Khayrat Souf is located. Enjoy a locally produced meal in the company your hosts. Explore the historical side of the city, touring the Roman Amphitheater, Jordan Folklore Museum, and the Citadel. Walk around downtown and the fruit market with your guide and try traditional Jordanian foods like Hummus and Falafel. Arrive in Jabal al-Weibdeh, one of Amman’s oldest neighborhoods, and explore several art galleries, museums, and handcraft shops. Then head back to your hotel for an evening at leisure.

DAY 3, September 20, 2020 | Amman – Madaba – Mount Nebo – Kerak – Petra
Amman – Madaba – Mount Nebo – Kerak – Petra

Start today’s journey by heading to the Christian town of Madaba, which is famous for its exquisite 6th-century mosaic map of the Holy Lands. The history of this town dates back at least 3,500 years, witnessing a number of great civilizations that inhabited this area, like the Romans and Byzantines. Then drive to Mount Nebo where Moses looked across to the Promised Land and later died and was buried. Mt. Nebo offers a fantastic view westward, with a vista that includes the Dead Sea, the West Bank, the Jordan River, and, on a clear day, Bethlehem and Jerusalem. Afterwards, travel to the ancient Crusader castle in Kerak, exploring the maze of stone-vaulted halls and passageways. The city of Kerak was the capital of Moab and was also used by the Greeks and Romans. The castle lies on the ancient caravan routes that used to connect Egypt to Syria, and its commanding position almost 1,000 meters above the Dead Sea Valley made it a strategic asset of great importance. The castle provides an impressive insight into the architectural and military skills of the Crusaders. On the way to Petra, stop for a panoramic tour of Shobak Castle, exploring the towers and walls decorated with carved inscriptions dating from 14th century Mameluke renovations. At the end of the day, arrive at your hotel in Petra for a well-deserved rest.

DAY 4, September 21, 2020 | Petra – Little Petra – Petra
Petra – Little Petra – Petra

After breakfast, hike towards the back entrance to Petra, which will avoid most of the tourists. This way follows a Nabataean route out of the valley, around a mountain, and onto a hidden plateau high above the impressive chasm of Wadi Siyyagh. Take in the amazing views across the Araba mountains and the Negev desert. ‘The Monastery’ suddenly comes into view, where there is a Bedouin café for refreshments. Descend the final Nabataean steps into ancient Petra. Later, exit past ‘The Treasury’ and though the famous ‘Petra Siq’ to the shops, cafés, and hotels of Wadi Musa. We will join a group of Bedouins for dinner, enjoying stories and traditional music.

DAY 5, September 22, 2020 | Petra – Wadi Rum
Petra – Wadi Rum

After breakfast, drive from your hotel in Petra and head south to Wadi Rum for a full-day jeep tour with lunch in the middle of the desert. The jeep tour will allow you to travel around Wadi Rum’s valleys, canyons, dunes, and deserts where you can discover rock inscriptions and majestic views of mountains and landscapes and narrow gorges. At each stop you have the opportunity to hike and explore. Then, head back to your camp to enjoy a delicious Bedouin dinner under the stars.

DAY 6, September 23, 2020 | Wadi Rum – Dead Sea
Wadi Rum – Dead Sea

After breakfast, travel to the Dead Sea, the lowest point on earth, taking a small detour through Aqaba. Following the Jordan Valley Highway, we will stop at a local family’s home in Ghor Safi to taste their traditional meal. Once we arrive at the Dead Sea, wade in and float. Due to the high salt content, it is virtually impossible to swim there, but entirely possible to float. Try out the "magical" Dead Sea mud and soak up some sun.

DAY 7, September 24, 2020 | Amman
