Welcome to Morocco! Your journey begins in Marrakech, the ochre city that gave the country its name, this exotic and friendly city is known also as the Pearl of the South. Marrakech showcases all of the magic and diversity that Morocco has to offer. You will be met at the airport and taken by private transfer to check into your hotel. Welcome dinner this evening will be enjoyed at the hotel.
DAY 01, October 20, 2019 | Marrakech
Today, you will enjoy a tour of Marrakech. Renowned for its architectural wonders, historical monuments, the mystical medina and its thrilling souks. In the middle of the medina, travel back through time with original photos of Morocco dating from 1870 until the 1950s at la maison de la photography. Enjoy a fascinating walk in the beating heart of Marrakech “The Medina”, Far from the touristy areas, you will explore the real Moroccan life amid the neighbourhoods, where “Marrakchis” still live in simplicity. Walk through the Labyrinth of Souks, this maze of colorful alleys and small squares is home to a bewildering number of stalls and ateliers, devoted to everything from spices and ironwork to the ingredients necessary for casting magic spells.
Emerging out into the famous Jamaa el Fna, the city’s main square. No one is really certain how it came into being, but over the years the square has become the beating heart of Marrakech, where fire eaters, mime artists, snake charmers and street musicians perform at every turn.
DAY 01, October 21, 2019 | Marrakech – Asni Valley - Marrakech
Today, you will unearth a different side of Morocco, the majestic Asni Valley taking in the foothills of the Atlas Mountains. As you are driven by minibus through the beautiful sceneries of Asni valley, a very exciting drive climbing up through the Plateau du KIK, passing very impressive landscapes and Berber villages where people still live very simply. You will have the opportunity to visit a local family home and learn about the fascinating Berber culture and taste a delightful mint tea, savouring home-made bread with olive oil. In the afternoon return to the hotel and enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure.
DAY 01, October 22, 2019 | Marrakech – Casablanca – Rabat
Today you will travel 2 hours 45 minutes northwards towards Rabat, stopping en-route for an orientation tour of Casablanca, Morocco's largest metropolis and industrial hub. Discover the city's rich architectural heritage made from a blend of French-colonial design and traditional Moroccan style known as Moresque architecture. Developed back in the 1930s and heavily influenced by Art Deco, it embraced decorative details such as intricate tile work and ornate iron balconies. You will notice that some of the era's gems have been magnificently restored, whilst others lie in disrepair.
Visit the Hassan II mosque, the landmark and the highlight of the city, this phenomenal building is one of the world’s largest mosques. It was built to commemorate the former king’s (Hassan II) 60th birthday and opened in 1993. Built on reclaimed land, almost half of the surface of the mosque lies over the Atlantic Ocean; taking literally the verse from the Quran that states: God's throne was built upon the water. Rabat is the political capital of the Kingdom and situated at the mouth of the River Bu Regrag, opposite the city of Sale.
DAY 01, October 23, 2019 | Rabat – Fes
This morning your Akorn representative will take you on a half day city tour highlighting Rabat’s cultural influences and the superbly preserved relics of its Moorish past, the most famous site is the 12th Century Hassan Tower, with its incomplete minaret of the great mosque built by Yacoub al-Mansour. Located alongside is the mausoleum dedicated to Mohamed V, the founder of modern Morocco and the grandfather of the current king.
Visit the Mohamed VI museum of Modern & Contemporary art, the first museum in Morocco dedicated entirely to modern and contemporary arts. The Museum aims to cover the evolution of Moroccan artistic creation in the visual arts, from the beginning of the 20th century to our days.
You will also pay a visit to the Oudaya Kasbah which is built on a bluff overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Its gate is one of the most beautiful surviving in the Moorish world.
After lunch in a local restaurant you will travel 2 hours 15 minutes eastwards to Fes, arrive at your hotel in the late afternoon to check-in and enjoy the evening at leisure.
DAY 01, October 24, 2019 | Fes
Today you will visit Fes El Bali, the largest living and complete medieval medina-city and the cultural heart of Morocco. You will explore some of the 9000 narrow lanes, alleys and souks that make-up the labyrinth of the city’s old quarter. Enjoy a walking tour through the Medina, starting from Bab Boujloud down to the former house of Maimounid to see the water clock. The route continues via Talaa El Kebira & down to the Nejjarine Square, with its beautiful fountain made up of mosaic and elaborate tile-work.
You will visit the tanneries, where for centuries the leather produced has been highly esteemed and the methods remain the same today as in the medieval times. Only natural ingredients are used for the coloration such as indigo, saffron and poppy. From here you will head to Fez Jdid (the new Fez), an extension to Fez El Bali (the old medina). Fez Jdid was the first new town developed by the Merinids from the 13th century! The quarter also includes the Mellah, former Jewish quarter, with its cemetery and the Royal Palace which is not open to the public but whose impressive main gate can be admired on the Southern side (Place Des Alaouite). Return to your hotel in the late afternoon where you will enjoy a farewell to Morocco dinner.
DAY 01, October 25, 2019 | Fes – Seville
This morning, you will transfer to the airport for your flight to Seville. Upon arrival you will be met and transferred directly to your hotel.
Later this afternoon you will take a walking tour of the city. Seville is a melting pot of historic cultures and influences, discover how these diverse periods in history have combined to make Seville into the city it is today. Begin your tour with a visit to the fifteenth-century cathedral, one of the most breath-taking in all of Christendom, and see La Giralda. Visit the Alcazar, a magnificent fourteenth-century Mudejar palace that is one of the oldest royal residences in Europe still in use. Finally, enjoy a walk through the Barrio de Santa Cruz, a maze of narrow streets, whitewashed houses, small squares and flower-filled patios. Stop in a traditional tapas bar for a glass of "fino," dry sherry and some traditional tapas before returning to the hotel.
DAY 01, October 26, 2019 | Seville – Jerez - Seville
This morning you will travel for just over an hour south into the Andalucian countryside. Your route takes you to Jerez de la Frontera, famous worldwide for its sherry and brandy, as well as for its fine horses. Explore the old town, the ‘casco antiguo’, which dates back to Moorish times with an 11th-century fortress. At midday, visit the Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art, where you can watch the horses being trained (subject to schedules and ticket availability). Afterwards, enjoy a visit to one of the many sherry bodegas, or cellars, for a tour, light lunch and a tasting of this renowned dry ‘fino’ wine. Return to your hotel in Seville at the end of the afternoon.
A visit to Seville would not be complete without watching a performance of the region’s famous Flamenco. This evening transfer to Tablao El Arenal for an authentic Flamenco show performed in a building dating from the seventeenth century, with typical Andalusian architecture and decoration (enjoy dinner during the show).
DAY 01, October 27, 2019 | Seville – Granada
This morning you depart Seville for the 2 hours and 30 minute journey east towards Granada. After lunch in a local restaurant you will enjoy an afternoon tour in Granada, visiting the Alhambra, the most perfect example of the Arabian heritage in Andalucía, founded in the 1240s. Once a great citadel containing a whole community of houses, schools barracks and gardens, the Alcazaba fortress and Royal Palace are all that remain today but they offer a complex of magical, exotic buildings. Take a stroll through the lovely gardens of the Generalife Palace. Afterwards take a walking tour to include the Royal Chapel (burial place of the Catholic Monarchs Isabella of Castile and Ferdinand of Aragon) and Cathedral. You will then be transferred to your hotel.
DAY 01, October 28, 2019 | Granada – Cordoba – Madrid
This morning you will visit historic Cordoba. Upon arrival enjoy lunch at leisure before you begin a sightseeing tour (2.5 hours) of the city. Enjoy a walking tour through the flower-filled streets of the Jewish Quarter and visit the Mezquita, built between the 8th and 10th centuries and considered to be one of the most extraordinary buildings in all of Europe. In the 1520s, a Christian Baroque nave was constructed in the heart of the mosque, which fortunately is so large that the unity of the building was not destroyed by this resplendent but anomalous addition.
Later you will be transferred to the train station where you board your AVE train at Cordoba rail station (Preferente Class carriage) to Madrid. Private transfer to your hotel to check-in. Dinner tonight is in a lively restaurant on the Plaza Mayor.
