Kenya & Tanzania
Nairobi, Amboseli, Ngorongoro, Serengeti, Masai Mara
June 1-11, 2022
During your visits to every major park in Northeastern Africa, you’ll spend time with the BIG FIVE, geographic phenomena and learn from the tribes that have called this region home for millennia.
Day 1: June 1, 2022│Arrival in Nairobi
Jambo and welcome to Nairobi, Kenya!
Nairobi is a hub for dynamic and innovative artists, journalists, entrepreneurs, and businesspeople, and the city is constantly changing. Nairobi leaves travelers with a true taste of Africa’s vibrancy.
Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, you will be met by your guide and transferred to your overnight hotel.
You will have the opportunity to visit Kazuri Beads Women’s Factory, followed by lunch at Karen Blixen Coffee Garden. Thereafter, visit Giraffe Centre then head back to the hotel.
Day 2: June 2, 2022│Amboseli National Park
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel. Check out and proceed to Amboseli National Park, lying below the highest freestanding mountain in the world and the most famous symbol of Africa, Mt Kilimanjaro. This iconic spot is home to the legendary Maasai tribesmen and famous for huge herds of elephants. In addition to elephants, antelopes, zebras, wildebeests, buffalo, and the elusive leopard all reside within this park framed by the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro.
Enjoy lunch followed by an afternoon game drive.
Day 3: June 3, 2022 │ Amboseli National Park
Spend the day in Amboseli National Park with early morning and afternoon game drives, during which you will get the opportunity to visit a local school and Masai Village.
Amboseli, meaning “salty dust” in Masai, is a place of stark contrast. Despite Amboseli’s sometimes dry and dusty appearance, it has an endless supply of water filtered through thousands of feet of volcanic rock from Mt. Kilimanjaro’s snow melt. These underground streams converge into clear freshwater springs in the heart of the park. The powder-like dust is volcanic ash, which was released from Kilimanjaro millennia ago.
An amazing spectacle of Amboseli is the shimmering dry lakebed where false mirages of populated horizons, punctuated by real herds of zebra and gnu hover in front of you. The main attraction of Amboseli is its vast herds of elephants within the park; the bull elephants here have some of the largest tusks in Kenya! Early morning and late afternoon photographic opportunities are incredible, with plentiful game and Mt. Kilimanjaro providing an impressive and majestic backdrop.
Day 4: June 4, 2022 │ Lake Manyara
After breakfast, you will be driven to Namanga border to clear with Customs and Immigrations. Meet the local guides from Tanzania and after a brief introduction, continue with your safari to Tanzania. Arrive in time for lunch at Arusha Coffee Lodge, followed by a drive to Lake Manyara–a shallow alkaline lake that shimmers in a cleft in the Great Rift Valley.
Enjoy an evening game drive at Lake Manyara National Park. A small but uniquely diverse park, Manyara is home to the world-famous tree-climbing lions, thousands of flamingos, and nearly 500 species of birds.
Day 5: June 5, 2022 │ Ngorongoro
After breakfast, enjoy a game drive through Manyara National Park with a visit to Mto Wa Mbu Village. During this stop, you will enjoy a local lunch within the village. Later, you will be escorted to your lodge in Ngorongoro for dinner and your overnight stay.
Day 6: June 6, 2022 │ Ngorongoro
After breakfast, descend into the ‘8th Wonder of the World’, a unique biosphere that has remained virtually unchanged since the dawn of time. Enclosed within its towering walls are grasslands, swamps, forests, salt pans, a freshwater lake, and a glorious variety of bird life.
Here too are all the members of the ‘Big Five’ (lions, elephants, rhinos, leopards, and buffalo) as well as a large cast of plains game and one of Africa’s densest populations of predators. Enjoy a picnic lunch on the crater floor before climbing back up to the lodge in time for relaxation before dinner.
Day 7: June 7, 2022 │ Serengeti National Park
Enjoy breakfast at the lodge. Depart and continue your drive to Serengeti National Park via Olduvai Gorge. Experience an afternoon game drive in the greatest game sanctuary in the world, fantastic in its natural beauty and unparalleled in its scientific value. Serengeti National Park contains many different types of animals including lions, leopards, and cheetahs, as well as many more elephants and buffalo.
The park covers 14,763 km2 (5,700 sq mi) of grassland plains and savanna as well as riverside forests and woodlands. The park lies in the north of the country, bordered to the north by the national Tanzania and Kenyan border, where it is continuous with the Maasai Mara National Reserve. To the south-east of the park is Ngorongoro Conservation Area, to the south-west lies Maswa Game Reserve, and to the western borders are Ikorongo and Grumeti Game Reserves, to the north-east lies Loliondo Game Control Area.
Day 8: June 8, 2022 │ Serengeti National Park
After breakfast, enjoy a full day’s game driving (meals taken in true safari style ‘in the bush’) in the vast and sensational Serengeti, which covers 14,763 sq km of endlessly rolling savanna. Venue for ‘The greatest wildlife show on Earth’, the annual migration of over one million wildebeest, the park is also renowned for its lions, cheetahs, zebras, giraffes, and plains game.
Day 9: June 9, 2022 │ Masai Mara
Depart after breakfast, bidding farewell to Serengeti to drive to the Isebania Tanzania/Kenya border to continue with your safari in Kenya. This is a long day of approximately 6 hours’ drive to the camp which will be your home for the next 2 days.
The Masai Mara National Reserve offers wonderful scenery and plenty of game. It is perhaps the only region left in Kenya where the visitor may see animals in the same super-abundance as existed a century ago. Your guides will look for a good location for you to stop and have lunch. Afterwards, enjoy an afternoon game drive en-route to Camp, arriving at dusk and in time to freshen up before dinner.
Day 10: June 10, 2022│Masai Mara
Spend the whole day on safari in Africa’s richest wildlife viewing arena. Historically teeming with wildlife, the Mara hosts Kenya’s largest lion prides and elephant herds. Other predators include leopards, cheetahs, and spotted hyenas; while in the Mara River you will see fat pods of hippos and vast Nile crocodiles.
Day 11: June 11, 2022 │ Depart Nairobi
After breakfast and taking your morning at leisure, transfer to Ol Kiombo Airstrip for your scheduled flight to Nairobi. You’ll be met by a representative on arrival at the airport and be transferred to the Famous Carnivore Restaurant for lunch.
