Q&A with Patrick Yevuyibor of Accra, Ghana
What was it like growing up in Accra? I spent my childhood years in the countryside, where life was rudimentary. There was no electricity, treated water, television, or computer. I walked several kilometers to school each day. I returned to the city after graduating from the university.
Tell me something interesting about your home town/country. Accra is the political and economic capital of Ghana. It is located on Longitude 0° (Greenwich Meridian) and a little bit above Latitude 0° (Equator). Accra therefore is almost at the center of the Earth. Ghana means “the warrior king”. It is located along the Gulf of Guinea and Atlantic Ocean. It has a population of about 27 million from a variety of ethnic and religious groups. Its varied geography includes savanna, forests, springs, cave systems, mountains, estuaries, waterfalls, and nature reserves. Ghana's coast is dotted with culturally significant castles, forts, and harbors. Ghanaians are hospitable, friendly, tolerant, respectful, hardworking, and, above all, peaceful.?What do you do for a living? I am a professional teacher, teaching Science in a secondary school.
