PTPI's Global Book Club - December Selection

Part of the joy of travel is the opportunity to experience a completely new way of life – to take yourself out of your comfort zone and try to make your way in a foreign space, knowing that eventually you’ll return to the familiar setting of wherever you call home. But what if you don’t go home? In The Good Shufu, Tracy Slater shares her struggle to make the foreign feel like home. After falling in love with a Japanese man, she navigates the obstacles thrown up by cultural differences and her own desire to remain in the comfort zone she’s always known.

People to People International’s Global Book Club is a way to connect with your global community. Global Book Club members communicate about valuable, international topics and gain unique insight and understanding of various cultural views in relation to those topics. Once I started reading the book, I could not put it down for long. I was in Japan several years ago. I could relate to lot of things the author was referring to in her book. I admire her perseverance with bicontinental relationship and in the process understanding her inner self. The LOVE between her and Toru is something beyond imagination. It stood all the weathering life put them through! A good selection. can not wait for the discussion questions.
